For some reason people are thinking we are running an "animal-rescue-shelter". It started off with a very energetic black labrador and after a cute 2 years old Maltese dog we are doing tortoises now.
The Lab found a great new home and so did the Maltese but the tortoises are still with us. We fenced of an area in the garden to be a safe haven for the tortoises but it was not that safe after all.
We started with three, two tortoises (land-turtels for the dutch readers) and a teraphine (swimming turtle for the dutch readers...).
The swimming turtle, Tommy, dissapeared from our garden without any proof of escape... Today I found out that a teraphine of that size would be worth 100 dhs so maybe somebody took it from his pond...
One of the tortoises was severely hurt by our hairy four-legged friend Peppi. He played too rough with the tortoises and we are telling the kids that tortoise is in "summer-sleep" while we are trying to figure out a better story!
I am trying to motivate P to fix a dog-proof construction for the tortoises but until now I did not succeed, new day tomorrow!
